FILMS > Azken izpia / The Last Ray (work in progress)

In the future, Celso and Roke search for geological evidence of an event that happened many years ago and changed humanity's destiny. While exploring the vertical rock strata of a coastal cliff, they unwillingly discover that rocks might communicate through erosion—an immensely slow language beyond human comprehension. In another timescape, voices speak of a sudden tide surrounding them. When they awaken, they find ages have passed, and they’ve become part of the cliff’s rock. Elsewhere, in a different time, a four-year-old girl named Kala sings an old Basque song on the same stones with her parents. In her twenties, she protests the construction of a nuclear plant being built there. Finally, in her sixties, she meets Celso, the strange man from the future who's now stranded in her time. Staying near this geological site on the Basque Coast, Azken izpia travels through time using various film, photography, video, and CGI imagery to weave together a hybrid sci-fi fairytale about the human confronting an unimaginable timescale.
