The 27 inhabitants of the marshy island of Mandø live separated from the mainland by tides, dreaded tourist visits, and migrating birds. Among them is the farmer Gregers, on a quest to find a woman willing to live there with him... As a historic storm looms, the dilemma of departure is exacerbated, against an everyday backdrop blending poetry and humor.

AWARDS

*** Best Spanish Feature Film Prize at Gijon International Film Festival 2024 ***

"The Spanish Cinema Jury has decided to award the Best Film Prize to As the Tide Comes In, directed by Juan Palacios, for immersing us in an extremely powerful visual universe full of poetry and environmental reflection and offering us the portrait of a small community in transformation from a sensitive perspective and with sense of humour. Juan Palacios has been able to capture the essential connection between human beings and the natural environment with an anthropological gaze, revealing the small epiphanies that arise in the simplest moments."

*** Premio “RCSERVICE” Award for the Director of the Best Spanish Feature Film for Juan Palacios at Gijon International Film Festival 2024 ***

*** Best Film Award in Green Competition at Inconvenient Films 2024 ***

"This film is a unique cinematic experience that not only satisfies a sense of curiosity but also keeps us alert. A clear directorial vision pushes the boundaries of cinema as far as this medium allows and tries to engage in a non-didactic, meaningful conversation with the audience. As you’re watching a small community going about their lives, while their island is being swallowed by the sea, you start to feel as if also slowly drawing together. It is melancholic to witness something that soon will be gone, but also there is the joy that it all existed. This film is almost a statement, a time capsule for the future – see how we lived! And see how we drowned."

*** Nominated for the Robert Awards ***

*** Nominated for the Bodil Awards ***
